Supporting the Automotive Industry with a Wide Range of Engineering Capabilities

The needs of society related to automobiles include a shift from gasoline vehicles to electrified vehicles, including hybrid vehicles (HVs) and electric vehicles (EVs), which is aimed at reducing the environmental impact, and fuel efficiency improvement through the use of lighter vehicle bodies. We are contributing to the automotive industry by providing manufacturing equipment for lines of automotive secondary batteries for HVs and EVs, as well as production lines related to automobiles and pieces of equipment constituting such production lines, including equipment for automotive parts production, friction stir welding (FSW) equipment that contributes to manufacture lightweight vehicle bodies and testing devices that use X-ray and ultrasonic waves.

Automotive Secondary Batteries

Automotive secondary batteries are aimed at reducing the environmental impact. However, they are also expected to play a role in adjusting the power supply by charging and discharging electricity to and from the power grid, thereby helping overcome power supply instability stemming from the expansion of renewable energy, for which power conditioning is difficult, such as photovoltaic and wind power generation. We have been working on secondary battery manufacturing equipment since the 1990s, applying our experience cultivated since the 1960s, through technologies for roll-to-roll press and automatic assembly equipment. We can offer equipment for manufacturing automotive secondary batteries in all shapes, including laminated, cylindrical and square. We are also working on equipment for the mass production of all-solid-state lithium ion batteries, which performance is expected to improve dramatically in the future.

Automotive Parts and Other Products

In the automotive industry, the reduction of vehicle body weight is demanded along with high safety, quality and production speed. We provide automotive parts manufacturing equipment that features high speed, a high operating rate and high quality, ranging from those for manufacturing drive-train parts to those for safety-related parts. We also offer friction stir welding (FSW) equipment, which enables high fatigue strength and low welding deformation (distortion), which is ensured by the fact that the material is not melted. Because these pieces of equipment are not dependent on engineers’ experience, they also lead to the solution of issues, such as the difficulty of transferring technology from skilled engineers.
